Ramchandrapur : An ideal village model

In the last decade , Ramchandrapur village had prolems of inadequate electricity and water for irrigation and drinking, alcohol consumption by most of the villagers , no drainage system etc. But many educated persons in the village with their innovative ideas transformed the village into a flourished and developed one. The village has a population of 2200 and 2110 acres of land. 98 % of the total land is under the cultivation. It has its own power sub-station, reverse osmosis plant, 29 Self Help Groups, 7 Farmer’s groups, Village cabinet, tax system, good drainage system, milk producer society, kitchen garden in each house, primary health centre, primary school, anganwadi etc. The crops like paddy, mango, cotton, groundnut and sunflower are generally grown in this village. The combined average annual savings of the village is about Rs. 1 crore. People of the village also pledge to eye donation. Out of 21809 villages in A.P it has been awarded as the best village.

This village gives a ray oh hope that with effective leadership all villages in India can acieve sustainable development.

Beautiful village outside of Hyderabad called Ramchandrapuram Dist-Karimnagar mdl Koheda.

The village is much smaller than its name might imply, but it was worth the 3.5 hour drive to see it nonetheless.. Ramchandrapuram is considered a model village here, because we have managed to achieve significant development through correct use of government aid programs. The villagers collectively bought land and gave it to the government so that they could build a power station and supply the village with electricity. We also had a dike system in the riverbed with many electric pumps that supplied the village with water, where it is filtered for safe use.everone struck by the contrast between the cleanliness of Ramchandrapuram compared to other villages we have been through; the homes and streets are not luxurious but they are very well kept. Many  of the students of different ages within the village. Many of them excitedly showed us their English books, and others, in some cases reluctantly, pulled out books on physics, trigonometry, biology and social sciences when prompted. The system of governance in the village was self-created, and involves many elected officials in different ministry positions headed by the mayor. Together they decide what actions can be taken to improve and regulate Ramchandrapuram. We currently have a prohibition of alcohol because it was a major problem previously. The village also has 29 Women Self Help Groups covering a range of different activities
I hope that other villages will be able to follow the example set by Ramchandrapuram..
